What We Do

Experiential learning, community engagement, regular interaction with staff, and peer support and accountability allows students at The Well to increase in knowledge and self-awareness of their strengths and challenges in working towards wellness, learning what it can mean to thrive, and building lasting friendships! At The Well, students will enjoy retreats, access to health coaching, community projects, wellness workshops and more!

Community Structure

Community Living Standard

  • All students agree to foster a clean living environment free of alcohol, illegal substances, and destructive behavior. Additionally, they commit to attend consistently and participate actively in scheduled community sessions, to support the group application of wellness technique, strive for excellence in achieving their set goals, and positively inspire others!

Educational Programming

  • Retreats: The Fall and Spring retreat are full-day experiences that serve as the launching and concluding events of the year. They are filled with fun and engaging teambuilding activities facilitated by Residence Life staff, CAPS staff, DUWELL staff, other campus partners, and Triangle area resources!

  • Wellness Wednesday: Every first Wednesday DUWELL and other campus partners will facilitate an in-house wellness-focused group session. Sessions will range from nutrition/cooking workshops to stress management workshops and fitness assessments and workouts. Members of the community are required to attend the four programs each semester.

  • Health Coaching: This mentorship relationship with DUWELL staff will help students to understand how the different dimensions of wellness relate to each other, equip students to identify areas to be brought back into balance, and set an action plan to do so. Students are required to have three sessions in the Fall semester and two in the Spring semester as they work towards their wellness goals.

Social Programming

  • First Friday Fun Nights: The Residence Life team will coordinate a variety of social events on campus and in the Triangle after dark as an “alternative social experience” for residents.
